The graphic in my banner was drawn for me years ago by my beautiful daughter, Shannon.  It represents
the Medicine Wheel and the
unlimited power of universal love. The big bear is me and the little bear is my daughter.   I love you Shannon!  Thank you for this gift!.

Shamanic Art:  Tool Making for the Shamanic Healer
Part of the Compassionate Journeys Training Series

Every shamanic healer has certain "tools" that he uses during a journey,
which usually include a drum, a rattle and a medicine pouch or bag.
Shamanic art holds great power when the shaman makes them with focused intent,
concentrated energy and love for the people and
animals who will benefit from their service.

This course has been designed for the shamanic healer, but anyone can benefit from
the knowledge and techniques presented here.   All items are made with ceremony
and respect for the plants, animals and minerals being used.

Because of time constraints, technique and basic skill development
are the core of this training program.   That means that everyone who attends
will make exactly the same items in the exactly the same way.
After that, you are limited only by your own creativity and imagination.

You will make one 15" Native American style frame drum and beater.
Your drum may be round or octagonal, elk, horse or buffalo.
(My choice, based on availability of materials.)
Drums will be laced in the Four Directions style shown above.

You will also make one round rattle and one medicine pouch.

I guarantee that you will leave the class with a finished drum, rattle and medicine pouch.
We will make other small items and discuss other techniques if time permits.
I will pack the class with as much knowledge as I can share in the time allowed.

This is one of Val's most popular workshops, so register soon.
Limited space is available.
Cost includes all materials and supplies.
Bring a sack lunch to eat on the grounds.

What students have to say about this course:
"I registered for Valerie's Tool Making course with more than a little doubt. She *promised* that I would make a rattle, a drum and a medicine bag in one single weekend. I had a few unfinished, lifeless tools I had made from a previous course of identical length and I thought that this simply couldn't be done, despite her repeated assurances to the contrary. Val delivers! As it turned out, I made TWO finished rattles, repaired and decorated a rattle I had made previously, made THREE small palm rattles, a rawhide tobacco carrier, a finished medicine bag WITH a dream catcher decoration for it that I also made AND I made a finished drum and drum beater! Every student in our class had similar experiences and made a a similar number of absolutely gorgeous tools. Val is a wonderful spirit-led teacher who makes everyone feel comfortable, calm, and capable. I came away from this class absolutely confident that I can choose my own raw materials with discernment and reproduce absolutely everything I did during this course. The teaching circles that Val also weaves into her classes are a beautiful added bonus. I consider this course to be the shamanic bargain of the century! Thank you, Val for teaching such a wonderful and fun class and also for restoring my confidence that I *can* be a maker of shamanic tools for myself and for others. I feel blessed to have such an amazing teacher within reach! "   J.R.   Alabama
